Fintech Partner Related

I do not have an account with Piermont Bank, but why do I see transactions listed Piermont Bank as the receiving or originating institution?

Piermont Bank supports financial technology companies (“FinTechs”) and powers banking services for the fintechs’ customers. This includes bank accounts, debit cards and we process transactions such as direct deposits, ACH transfers, and wires. While these transactions may list Piermont Bank as the receiving or originating institution, the actual account is managed by the FinTech company, not by Piermont Bank directly.

If you see funds deposited into a Piermont Bank account but you don’t bank with us directly, it’s likely the transaction is tied to an account you hold (or held) with one of our FinTech partners.

You can often identify FinTech-linked accounts by the first four digits of the account number: if they begin with 7010 through 7049, the account was opened through our FinTech partner.

I recently received a check issued by Piermont Bank, but I am not a customer. How should I verify the check's legitimacy?

Piermont Bank supports a number of financial technology companies or “FinTechs” that use our banking services including check issuance. Typically, there is a memo line explaining the purpose of check, for example, a refund or account closure. Before a check is mailed to you, our FinTech partners usually send out either email communication or U.S. mail, letting you know about the check.

If you received a check that appears to be from Piermont Bank, but you are not a customer, please take the following steps:

  • Think about your recent activity — have you opened or used an account with a FinTech or digital app?
  • Check your messages — did you recently receive an email or letter about an account being closed or funds being returned?
  • Review the check — does the name and address match yours, and does the memo line indicate what the payment is for?
  • If you’re still unsure, you can contact us for assistance. Please include the following details when reaching out:
    • Date the check was issued
    • Payee name
    • Check number
    • Check amount
    • Account number printed on the check
    • Memo details
  • With this information, we can help determine whether the check was issued through one of our FinTech partners or conduct an appropriate investigation if needed.
